Fan violence is not something that one associates with Australian football.

However, this was the ugly case during an A-League blue chip encounter between city rivals Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory.

According to BBC Sport, fans ran onto the pitch from behind the City stands in the 22nd minute of the match, protesting an unpopular recent off-field decision. Referee Alex King and City goalkeeper Tom Glover suffered cuts to the face after being struck by a metal bucket which reportedly contained sand. Not long thereafter, the fixture was then abandoned.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, three men have since been arrested for their part in the violence.

The report stated:

[The 23-year-old] man was charged after he allegedly struck Melbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover with a bucket full of sand. He has been charged with violent disorder, discharge missile, intent to cause injury, recklessly cause injury, unlawful assault, entry to sporting competition space, disrupting a match, public nuisance and riotous behaviour."

Harare City player Jerry Chipangura will have the next 14 months to rethink his life choices.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to jail for being in possession of 40 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as MDMA, Ecstasy or mutoriro.

He had also been charged with the intention of selling the drug. He was arrested in the suburb of Mabvuku in Harare back in June of this year.
