  • France defender Theo Hernandez broke Morocco's water-tight defence en route to the World Cup final
  • Prior to France's meeting with Morocco, the Atlas Lions had not conceded a goal from an opposition player
  • France will hope to become the second nation in 60 years to win back-to-back World Cups when they face Argentina

Theo Hernandez became the first opposition player to score against Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The marauding left-back, who has been a key cog in France's route to the semifinals, scored with an acrobatic strike to breach the impermeable Morocco defence.

Morocco had played five games in Qatar conceding just once, an own goal by defender Nayef Aguerd, in what has been an unflappable collective performance to reach a historic semifinal berth.

According to Euronews, France will be aiming to become the first side after Brazil to defend the World Cup should they beat Morocco in the semifinals and continue on the same tangent in the finals against Argentina.

Theo Hernandez's brother Lucas limps off

France have been dealt a crushing blow with Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez set to miss the 2022 World Cup due to an injury.

The 32-year-old ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Les Bleus' 4-1 win over Australia in Group D on Tuesday.

Hernandez, who was named in the starting XI against Australia, pulled up in the build-up to the Socceroos' opening goal as he lay on the pitch in pain.

France receive rousing welcome

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that an awesome video has emerged on social media where players of the France national team were welcomed at their hotel like kings following their win over Morocco at the World Cup.

France on Wednesday night, 14 December, staged a back-to-back final at the World Cup thanks to their 2-0 win over Morocco in the semi-final of the 2022 edition.

The Moroccans fought well in the match, but they would have themselves to blame for missing many scoring chances which would have given them the advantage.
