France has been backed to retain the World Cup by Brazil legend, Ronaldo Nazario, following their impressive performance in the ongoing tournament in Qatar.

Didier Deschamps and his team qualified for the semi-finals after dispatching England 2-1 in the quarter-finals, with Oliver Giroud grabbing the winning goal for France.

According to Sportskeeda, Ronaldo believes France is now the favourite to win the tournament and believes Kylian Mbappe is their greatest weapon.

“My prediction was always a Brazil-France final. Brazil is gone, and France right now is the big favorite. Mbappé is having a great World Cup."

The legendary striker also lauded Mbappe for his physical and technical attributes.

"He may be the best player. He has a natural talent and at 23 years old, the experience of having won a World Cup.”

Les Bleus will take on first-time semi-finalists Morocco for a place in the final on Wednesday, while Argentina squares up with Croatia in the first semi-final.

Hakimi ready to face Mbappe

Meanwhile, Morocco defender, Achraf Hakimi has sent a message to his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Mbappe, ahead of their clash in the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, Vanguard reports.

After France’s victory against England, Hakimi sent Mbappe a message expressing excitement for their upcoming meeting, showing his apparent confidence in yet another shocking outcome.

The Atlas Lions had earlier sent Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal packing in the other quarter-final, making history as the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-final.

Mbappe consoles Rashford after elimination

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mbappe left Marcus Rashford a post expressing his consolation, following England's elimination from the World Cup in Qatar.

France beat England 2-1 at the Al Bayt Stadium to knock out the Three Lions and keep alive their hopes of retaining a title they won in 2018.

Mbappe responded to Rashford’s post by dropping a love emoji, with the English player in turn wishing the French star all the best for the remainder of the competition.
