However, the 35-year-old Argentina captain experienced a bizarre moment while doing an online interview with former teammate Sergio Aguero, ahead of the quarter-final clash with the Netherlands.

Messi saw his interview with Aguero interrupted by teammate and best pal Rodrigo de Paul, who bumped into the livestream only to kiss the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.

Messi, who has scored a total of three goals so far in the ongoing tournament, will hope he, de Paul and the team can lead Argentina to the country’s third World Cup title in Qatar.

Netherlands not thinking about Messi

Meanwhile, Netherlands defender Nathan Ake claims the Dutch team hasn't talked much about Messi, prior to their quarter-final matchup with Argentina, Marca reports.

Ake, who acknowledges the Paris Saint-Germain star as one of the best players of all time, admitted that stopping the 35-year-old Argentina captain will be a difficult task.

Messi has already bagged 3 goals for the South Americans in Qatar and is expected to play a key role once again for Lionel Scaloni’s men against the Louis Van Gaal-led Oranje.

Mexican politician wants Messi banned

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that a Mexican politician has reportedly tabled a petition calling for Lionel Messi's banning from setting foot in the country.

The veteran striker landed himself in trouble with the majority of Mexicans, after a video surfaced online showing the football star 'kicking' the team's jersey in the dressing room.

The incident is understood to have happened shortly after Argentina had sent the North Americans packing from the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.
