Morocco winger Sofiane Boufal believed the North Africans would reach the quarter-final of the World Cup, three months before the tournament started in Qatar.

The former Southampton star has been one of Morocco's stars at the World Cup alongside Hakim Ziyech and Achraf Hakimi.

On Tuesday, the Atlas Lions shocked the world after eliminating 2010 champions Spain in an enthralling game at the Education City Stadium.

“You’re going to think I’m a crazy person,” Boufal said in a video shared on Twitter. “But if we get past the group stage, and we will Inshallah (God willing), we are going to the quarter-finals; we will be the surprise. We will do what Ghana did in 2010."

Boufal was a thorn in the side of the Spanish, causing trouble for the defenders of La Roja.

After 120 minutes of football, the game had to be settled on penalties, with the North Africans beating the European giants 3-0.

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was the star on the night after saving two spot kicks, while Hakimi won the game with a Panenka penalty.

Hakimi delighted after Morocco win

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Achraf Hakimi described Morocco's victory over Spain in the round of 16 as 'unbelievable'.

The Paris Saint Germain right-back scored the winning penalty to send the North Africans into the last eight of the tournament in Qatar.

Hakimi took to social media to express his feelings, following the heroic performance of the Atlas Lions.

Piers Morgan praises Achraf Hakimi

British broadcaster Piers Morgan is full of praise for Morocco's defender Achraf Hakimi, after he scored the winning penalty against Spain.

Hakimi confidently delivered the Panenka penalty kick to knock the Europeans out of the World Cup in Qatar, with the African nation progressing to the quarter-final.

After Spain missed their first three spot kicks, the hopes of a whole continent were on the PSG right-back, who opted for style over surety.
