Afterwards, the Cameroon Football Association chief was filmed attacking an unidentified man, despite smiling broadly a few seconds earlier. The retired striker was visibly upset by what the man said to him.

New details have now emerged suggesting the man had accused Eto'o of match-fixing. Various outlets have claimed that Eto'o was accused of colluding with match officials during Cameroon's World Cup playoff match against Algeria in March.

The play-off match was marred by extreme highs and lows, after the Indomitable Lions booked their ticket after a last-gasp goal from Karl Toko-Ekambi.

YouTuber claims he was attacked

A Youtuber from Algeria has claimed he is the man who was attacked. The man has identified himself as Said Mamouni.

According to Al Jazeera, Mamouni has confirmed that he asked Eto'o to shed light on whether or not he had paid the referee for that game - Bakary Papa Gassama. However, Al Jazeera has not established the authenticity of the man's identity.

The Algerian FA accused Gassama of favouritism even as Cameroon proceeded to the World Cup. The Indomitable Lions, under Rigobert Song, played Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland in the group stages but did not make it to the next round.

Neither Eto'o nor the Cameroon FA is yet to make an official statement on the incident.

What did Eto'o do?

Sports Brief had earlier reported that a shocking video surfaced online, capturing Samuel Eto'o attacking an unknown man outside the stadium after Brazil's World Cup clash against South Korea.

Eto'o is understood to have been part of thousands of fans who gathered at Stadium 974 to watch the round of 16 clash on Monday night, December 5.

However, the Barcelona legend appeared to have lost his cool shortly after the match, with a now-viral video doing the rounds on social media showing him kneeing a cameraman in the car park.
