  • Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly closing in on a sensational free transfer to Saudi giants Al Nassr
  • The veteran forward is said to have agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Middle East club
  • Ronaldo could pocket €200 million per season and become the higest-paid athlete in the world

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed a deal to join Saudi giants Al Nassr after the 2022 World Cup.

The veteran striker is currently without a club, after his two-year contract was terminated by Manchester United back in November.

Ronaldo's deal with the Red Devils was ripped apart with a few months still remaining on it, following his controversial interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.

It was earlier projected that the 37-year-old would continue playing at the highest level despite his advancing age.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were initially touted as favourites to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, while an emotional return to Sporting Lisbon had been mooted.

Ronaldo set to join Al Nassr

Al Nassr seems to have won the race to sign the experienced forward on a free transfer, with Sportbible reporting that Ronaldo will join the Saudi Arabian club once the January transfer window opens.

The Portuguese is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club that will see him pocket a huge €200 million per season.

The deal - if it goes ahead - will effectively see him become the highest-paid athlete in the world, ahead of PSG trio of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Portugal boss unhappy with Ronaldo

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Portugal boss Fernando Santos breaking his silence about Cristiano Ronaldo's reaction to being substituted against South Korea.

Ronaldo's reactions after being subbed off annoyed his boss, and he stated that he felt the matter was closed and had been dealt with.

The Portugal icon has scored just one goal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and will have a chance to add to his tally when they play Switzerland in the last 16.
