The game between Brazil and South Korea tonight will be the final one ever held in Stadium 974, one of the standout stadia used to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The over 44,000-capacity stadium will be dismantled and will disappear completely after the end of the World Cup and will be shipped to countries that need the infrastructure.

Stadium 974 was unveiled during a digital launch in November 2021 and hosted its first match during the opening day of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021.

The over 40,000 capacity stadia also hosted Portugal’s enthralling 3-2 victory against African foes Ghana with Cristiano Ronaldo opening the scoring in that game.

Stadium 947 also hosted the games between Mexico v Poland, France v Denmark, Brazil v Switzerland, and Serbia v Switzerland.

Designed to be dismantled

Stadium 974 is the only venue that Qatar constructed for the World Cup that isn't air-conditioned as the stadium hosts only evening matches when temperatures are cooler, VOA reports.

The Stadium is named after Qatar's international dialing code and the number of containers used to build the stadium.

The idea of dismantling Stadium 974 was to avoid building a "white elephant." A stadium that is left unused or underused after the tournament ends.

FIFA President reveals North Korea can host World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported FIFA president Gianni Infantino disclosed that he is open to North Korea hosting the World Cup in a bid to 'unite the world'.

Infantino, who is set to be re-elected to office for a third consecutive term, reckons that any nation is eligible to host the Mundial.

This year's hosts, Qatar have come under serious scrutiny owing to the Middle East nation's alleged well-documented human rights violations and strong homophobic posture.
