The 22-year-old has made two starts for Gareth Southgate's team so far in the 2022 World Cup. Foden was also part of England's squad for the Euro 2020, where they painfully lost to Italy on penalties.

The Manchester City man has been impressive for his club this season, notably scoring a hat-trick against Manchester United in the derby. Overall he's scored seven Premier League goals this term.

Foden matches Beckham's record

Foden assisted England's second and third goals, and the outstanding Jude Bellingham probably eclipsed his performance.

His first assist came when he was put through by a sublime through ball by Bellingham in transition, laying it off for his captain Harry Kane to slot past Eduoard Mendy.

He was at it again, pouncing on another Senegal mistake before supplying an inch-perfect cross for Saka, who deftly put it past Mendy to seal the deal for the 1966 World Cup champions.

With his two assists against the African champions, he became the first Englishman to record multiple assists in a World Cup knockout round match since David Beckham in 2002.

England prepares to face defending champions France in a highly anticipated quarter-final showdown. Foden is hoping to produce a similar or better performance.

Foden signs new deal

Sports Brief earlier reported on Foden signing a new deal at his club after an incredible start to the season.

He inked a deal that extended his contract with the Premier League champions until 2027. The 22-year-old has won nine major trophies since coming to the City academy.

He has scored 53 goals in 189 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side. He's also assisted 36 goals. The forward has netted three England goals in 20 appearances.

"It's hard to put into words how happy I am to have signed this contract," said Foden. "It's a dream come true. “I’ve improved a lot in recent years and so much of that is down to Pep and his staff, who guide me every single day on the training field.
