Lionel Messi and Argentina survived nervy final moments to see off Australia in the round of 16 match of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

It was Messi's 1,000th career game and he made the most of it with a goal as well as setting new records and breaking some existing ones.

Though there is a never ending debate of who the greatest is between Messi and Ronaldo, anyone would be pleased to have met the two of them regardless of choice.

Australian players in the mixed zone after the game were lucky to meet Messi and did not let the moment pass without taking a photo with him.

Even his colleagues are fans

Who doesn't want a picture with the GOAT? Lionel Messi was stopped for photos by Australian players as he walked past them, exchanging phones with each other to get captured.

As hilariously noted by a comment on Twitter, Australia's Keanu Baccus wore the shorts of teammate Matthew Leckie just to have a picture with Messi.

Messi's wife is his biggest fan

Sports Brief earlier reported that Messi's wife, Antonella wore his husband's jersey while cheering him on in the win over Australia.

Messi's family have been present at all games so far at the ongoing Qatar 2022 World Cup to cheer him on. His three children have also been pictured at the stadium.

Antonella is Messi's childhood sweetheart from his hometown of Rosario in Argentina. They got married in a private wedding in 2017 attended by selected guests.
