Cristiano Ronaldo has finally explained what he told South Korean star Lee Sung-Jae during the World Cup last group game on Friday night, 2 December, which Portugal lost.

The former Manchester United star endured a frustrating night as he failed to score in Portugal's 2-1 defeat against South Korea even though they finished topping the group.

In the 65th minute of the encounter, Portugal coach Santos decided to substitute Ronaldo from the game and that decision appeared to have made the the superstar livid.

And while walking out of the pitch, Sung-Jae moved towards his way and both players made some exchange of words.

According to the latest report on Kickoff, Ronaldo explained that he told the South Korean player to shut up when he came close to him.

Statement made by Ronaldo

''What happened was that before my departure, the player from Korea told me to leave the pitch quickly and I told him to shut up.
''He has no authority and he does not have to give an opinion, he would speed up the pace if he was the referee.''

Portugal will face Switzerland in the round of 16 at the ongoing 2022 World Cup and Ronaldo will have another chance to impress.

Portugal do not need Ronaldo

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how statistics so far at the Qatar World Cup have given an interesting perspective on Argentina and Portugal’s chances of going further in the competition without the services of their respective talisman Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both Portugal and Argentina are in the knockout stage of the competition, with the Selecao set to face Switzerland on Tuesday, December 6.

Argentina will come up against Australia on Saturday, with La Albiceleste expected to cruise into the quarter-final.

It was not a straightforward route to the last 16 for Argentina by any stretch, as they initially suffered a shock defeat to Saudi Arabia in their first game.

For Portugal, a 3-2 win over Ghana in their Group H opener put them well on course to qualify for the knockouts.
