FootballWorld Cup 2022: Ayew’s Penalty Miss Is No Fluke, Stats Show Ghana Are ‘Cursed’ When It Comes to Uruguay
- The Black Stars were awarded a penalty after Mohammed Kudus was brought down by Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet
- Ghana failed to rally from Ayew's miss, becoming the worst African side at this year's tournament based on points accrued
- The four-time African champions have been eliminated from the World Cup following their 2-0 defeat
Scoring from the penalty spot has always proven to be a tough nut to crack for the West African. It has been the reason why the West African nation have remained trophyless since 1982.
To add insult to injury, the penalty anathema struck 12 years ago when Asamoah Gyan missed from the spot which denied Ghana and the African continent a chance of breaking the semifinal glass ceiling at the World Cup.
Fast forward to 2022, Ghana came face to face with Uruguay, a match made by the "football gods" to exact revenge on Uruguay for their "football sins" in 2010.
However, just like 12 years ago, the penalty curse will strike again as Andre Ayew missed from 12 yards, eventually crashing Ghana out of the 2022 World Cup.

Ghana's penalty curse vs Uruguay
On the back of the country's painful exit at the football festival, a theory has been propounded which shows Ghana might be 'cursed' when it comes to Uruguay.
In 2010, Asamoah Gyan scored his last seven penalties including two at the World Cup but failed from the spot against Uruguay.
Presented with a similar opportunity against the same opposition, Andre Ayew, who had scored his last 25 penalties, strangely missed from 12 yards.
