The 29-year-old has not yet played a competitive game for Juventus since returning in the summer from Manchester United. He was part of the France team that lifted the 2018 World Cup, playing an instrumental role for Les Bleus.

He returned to Juventus after six tumultuous years at Old Trafford, and was looking to recapture his form ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Pogba underwent an operation in September, but his agent confirmed the midfielder would not return to the France squad for the World Cup, according to ESPN.

The midfielder injured his knee in preseason with the Serie A giants and decided not to undergo surgery on his meniscus, before changing his mind.

Pogba watches World Cup

Pogba posted photos of himself during a gym session on Instagram, and upon closer look, he was following events at the World Cup, according to the Sun.

On his television set, he was watching Canada versus Morocco, keeping a close eye on the conclusion of Group F.

Morocco beat Canada 2-1, booking their place in the last 16 for the first time since 1986. They progressed as group winners, while Croatia knocked out Belgium after their goalless draw.

Meanwhile, France's last group game ended with a shock defeat to Tunisia, but they had already sealed a place in the Round of 16. Pogba will definitely keep an eye on Les Bleus as they seek to defend the title they won in 2018 in Russia.

France break champions curse

Sports brief earlier reported on Pogba's France breaking the champions curse, by securing qualification to the Round of 16 instead of exiting at the World Cup group stage.

France became the first defending world champions to reach the knockouts since Brazil in 2006, with the two-time world champions falling to the curse 20 years ago after winning in 1998.

Italy, the 2006 FIFA World Cup winners, were knocked out in the 2010 edition, while Spain, winning its maiden World Cup in 2010, was eliminated four years later as well. Germany, champions in 2014, also suffered a similar fate in Russia 2018.
