All eyes are on the FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that life takes a backseat.

Numerous footballers are either enjoying the break from playing, trying to spend more time with family, or just trying to stay fit.

Not many players are focusing on their studies during this time, though. Spain’s Hugo Guillamon is the exception to the rule and is using his free time to go through his textbooks.

As noted by Football Espana, the 22-year-old Valencia player is doing a biomedical engineering course at Valencia Polytechnic University.

Guillamon was selected for Spain’s 26-man World Cup squad, but has yet to make an appearance in the tournament.

SportStar noted that Guillamon is currently nursing a knee injury which kept him out of the games against Costa Rica and Germany.

Balancing studies and football

Guillamon previously admitted that he uses his studies as a way to disconnect from football for a bit, as the two do clash at times.

He once missed a maths exam because he was making his national team debut for La Roja.

A newcomer to the team

The Valencia youngster has only three caps to his name for the Spanish team, but is viewed as another of Spain’s stars of the future.

At Valencia, he plays as a central midfielder, but Luis Enrique has opted to use him as a central defender in the Spanish setup thus far.

Spain youngster Gavi makes history

Sports Brief recently reported about another Spanish youngster making headlines, this time on the global stage.

La Roja youngster Gavi made World Cup history, following his sensational performance against Costa Rica during their meeting on November 23.

The teenage sensation was part of Spain's starting XI during their Group E opener at the Al Thumama Stadium.
