What happened to Neymar?

Neymar picked up a nasty ankle injury in Brazil’s Group G opener (2-0 win) over Serbia. The Selecao won the encounter thanks to a Richarlison brace.

Neymar then sat out the game against Switzerland as well, and won’t feature in Brazil’s final group game against Cameroon, Marca reported.

Neymar in the knockouts?

Brazil will be hoping that the Paris Saint-Germain attacker is fit in time for the knockout stages of the competition. The South American side have already qualified for the Round of 16 before their final group game against Cameroon.

Del Piero is also hoping that Neymar will be fit and back on the pitch soon.

A repeat of 2014?

Neymar’s injury-forced absence conjures back memories of the 2014 edition of the tournament.

The PSG star’s tournament was cut short after he was injured in the quarter-finals against Colombia. Neymar received a knee to the back which broke one of his vertebrae.

Without Neymar, Brazil went on to lose 7-1 in the semi-finals against Germany.

Neymar shares photos of injury

Brazilian star Neymar has taken to Instagram to give fans a glimpse of his horrific ankle injury picked during the World Cup, Sports Brief reported.

Neymar had a nightmare start to his World Cup campaign with the Samba Boys, as he was forced off in his side's Group G opener against Serbia with a nasty knock on November 24.

Nikola Milenkovic was responsible for Neymar's injury, which left the forward covering his face in anguish as he received treatment.
