  • England and Senegal will meet in the round of sixteen after beating Wales and Ecuador in their respective final group games
  • An English fan has been left unimpressed by the Three Lions performances and backs Senegal to win the round of 16 match
  • He quashed the famous 'it's coming home' phrase and says France will retain the title they won four years ago in Russia

The knockout stages of the Qatar 2022 World Cup are beginning to shape up.

England, the USA, the Netherlands and Senegal have all booked their places in the last 16 and know their next opponents will be.

Group B winners England will face Senegal, who came second in Group A, while the USA - who defeated Iran to qualify from Group B - will face Group A winner the Netherlands.

England scored three first-half goals after a quiet 45 minutes. Speaking after the match, one Three Lions fan was left unimpressed by the display, slamming Gareth Southgate as a conservative manager.

Senegal to eliminate England

The English fan praised Senegal after a great win over Ecuador despite being without their star man and captain Sadio Mane, who withdrew due to injury.

He also questioned England's slow approach to the game against Wales, and said the Teranga Lions will capitalise if they produce a similar first-half performance.

The comments were made in a random interview with Hayters TV.

''Senegal, great win for them today. It will depend on if England turn up with the right mindset; will they be positive or negative? We have a manager who is conservative by nature. If they play like they did in the first half, Senegal will be through to the quarter-finals."

It's not coming home

The English invented football and regards themselves as the home of football. However, they have not won any trophy since lifting the 1966 World Cup on home soil.

They chant the popular phrase 'football is coming home' each time they get close to winning a trophy, but the last time they did was in a losing attempt to Italy at Euro 2020.

The Three Lions fan believes the Mundial will not come home this year, backing France to retain the title they won four years ago in Russia.

Time for revenge on Italy?

Sports Brief earlier reported that England are drawn against Italy in the qualifying series of the Euro 2024, posing a chance for the Three Lions to get one up on the Azzurri.

European champions Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup, having also failed to qualify for the 2018 edition, and will be desperate to defend their title at Euro 2024.

As Italy beat England when it mattered most, a win for the English in the qualifiers might be the closest they have to getting revenge.
