  • Cristiano Ronaldo was in the form of his life during Portugal's World Cup clash against Ghana
  • The veteran striker scored the encounter's opener in the 65th minute past a helpless Ati-Zigi
  • Ronaldo then celebrated in front of an image of Lionel Messi on the advertising hoardings

The Portugal vs Ghana Group H World Cup clash was marked with an awkward scene, after Cristiano Ronaldo was caught on camera celebrating in front of a Lionel Messi image.

Ronaldo had a dream start at the 2022 edition of the World Cup in Qatar, as he opened his goal account in the first match.

The two teams settled for a barren draw at the interval, with neither side managing to find the back of the net. After the break however, Ronny handed Portugal the lead after he fired the ball home from the penalty spot.

The former Man United star, who is currently without a club, went on to pull his iconic 'Siuuu' celebration as he was joined his teammates.

An awkward moment then happened, with the Portuguese star 'Siuuu'ing in front of Lionel Messi's image, which coincidentally appeared on the stadium's advertising boards when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was celebrating.

Portugal stun Ghana

Meanwhile, Portugal were the happier side after 90 minutes of action at Stadium 974 in Doha, as they secured the three points with a 3-2 win.

While Andre Ayew and Osman Bukari found the back of the net for the Black Stars, their goals were not enough to stop Ghana from losing.

Joao Felix and Rafael Leao got their names on the scoresheet to add to Ronaldo's earlier opener, which inspired the Selecao to an important win.

Chelsea fans want Ronaldo

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on a section of Chelsea fans urging Cristiano Ronaldo to consider moving to Stamford Bridge.

Ronaldo is shopping for a new club after Manchester United terminated the veteran striker's contract at Old Trafford.

Some Chelsea fans contend the 37-year-old is better-suited to represent the Blues following his dramatic exit from the Red Devils.
