Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming he is a strong contender to win the Golden Boot at the World Cup.
Ronaldo has hit the headlines over the past week, after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.
The Premier League club released a 67-word statement on Tuesday evening, confirming they had reached an understanding with the Portugal star to leave the club.
Ronaldo was expected to see out the rest of his contract, only for United to release him seven months earlier than planned.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has turned his attention to the Qatar World Cup, as they prepare to take on Ghana on Thursday afternoon.
The Portugal star can become the first player to ever score at five World Cups with a goal against the Black Stars, which would set him ahead of the likes of Pele, Uwe Seeler, Lionel Messi and Miroslav Klose, who are tied on goals in four competitions.
His former Real Madrid teammate, Casillas believes Ronaldo still has the arsenal to become the goal king at the Mundial.
"It seems that Cristiano has come to the World Cup as a guest and people don't count on him, because of all the trouble he has at Manchester United... I do [have him as a contender for the Golden Boot]" he said to Marca via Goal.
Portugal come into the global showpiece in great form, beating Nigeria 4-0 in a pre-World Cup friendly.
They have been drawn alongside Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.
Williams' mother wants Ronaldo jersey
Meanwhile, Inaki Williams' mother has made a plea to her son to get her the jersey of Portugal captain Ronaldo after their Group H opener.
Madam Antwiwaa Williams is rooting for her son to lead Ghana to victory, when the Black Stars face Portugal on Thursday.
However, she has a soft spot for Ronaldo, who she has admitted is her favourite football player of all-time.
Chelsea fans want Ronaldo
Earlier, Sports Brief reported a section of Chelsea fans has urged CR7 to consider moving to Stamford Bridge after his exit from Old Trafford.
Ronaldo is shopping for a new club after Manchester United terminated his contract at the Theatre of Dreams.
Some Blues fans believe the 37-year-old striker would fit right in at their club and have urged him to consider signing up.
