Football fans across the world were in agreement that Spain is the nation to beat in the World Cup, after Luis Enrique’s side’s masterful performance against Costa Rica.

The Spaniards were simply too good on the day, as they completely demolished their South American opponents 7-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium.

Dani Olmo opened the scoring with a superb finish in the 11th minute, before Marco Asensio made it 2-0 10 minutes later.

Ferran Torres then made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in the 31st minute to take the game completely away from their opponents, but the 2010 World Champions were not done yet.

It was the youngsters who turned on the style in the second half, as Torres got his second goal in the 54th minute before Gavi put his name in the record books with a stunning volley, with 16 minutes of regular time to play.

In added time, Carlos Soler made it 6-0 and the rout was rounded off by Alvaro Morata in injury time.

Costa Rica never really got going, as Spain exhibited frightening dominance for large parts of the game through goal possession and actual goals.

On social media, fans were handed a brutal reality check, as they instantly came to the realisation that Spain are in fact one of the teams looking up to the challenge of winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Spain is in Group E along with Germany and Japan, and one of their most anticipated clashes will be the encounter with the Germans on November 27.

German press blast Hansi Flick

Sports Brief also reported on how the German press went after Hansi Flick, following Germany’s shock defeat to Japan.

The Samurai Blue staged a second-half comeback to record an astonishing upset against the 2014 World Cup winners, who took the lead through Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan.

The result has sent shockwaves through the world of football, as the Asian country punished the Germans for missing a catalogue of chances while ahead in the game.
