Speaking on his popular HBO show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver which Sport Brief observed, he said:

"We've talked before about FIFA, a cartel-like group of scumbags and assorted criminals who occasionally put on soccer matches. "Because for reasons, it turns out, FIFA were fully aware that Qatar was a fundamentally unsound choice for a summer soccer tournament. Qatar wasn't just a surprising choice; it was logically inexplicable.

In footage making the rounds on social media, spotted by Sports Brief, during the opening game, an Ecuadorian fan, literally with balls of steel, taunted the home crowd after Valencia had broken the game's deadlock.

Despite sitting in the midst of Qatari fans, the Ecuadorian stood to his feet gesturing a sign of money while telling the home fans to relax. His antics did not sit well with one Qatari, who told him to shut up.
