The date June 11, 2010 is forever a day of historic significance in sports history.

Significantly, the day will be remembered for Siphiwe Tshabalala's 55th minute thunderbolt to put Bafana Bafana in the lead over El Tri. What makes the goal is Peter Drury's commentary to describe the goosebump-inducing moment.

In the dregs of YouTube's ecosystem has emerged a video filmed by a member of the crowd who was in attendance and - incredibly - managed to captured the goal in its entirety.

It was accompanied by the words of Drury:

"Mphela... Modise... it's a really good ball. It's Tshabalalaaaaa! GOAL BAFANA BAFANA! GOAL FOR SOUTH AFRICA! GOAL FOR ALL AFRICA! JABULILE! REJOICE!"

Drury would then add another iconic line with:

"BAFANA BAFANA HAVE POPPED THE FIRST CORK ON THEIR DAY OF THE DAYS!"

Tshabalala's strike was nominated for the 2010 FIFA Puskas Award, as was reported on the Kaizer Chiefs website. Hamit Altıntop of Turkey won that year for his sensational hit against Kazakhstan in a EURO 2012 qualifier.

Reliving Africa World Cup moments

When it happens, an African team winning the FIFA World Cup will be the greatest moment in the continent's football history, without a shadow of a doubt.

Until then, everyone connected to Africa's exploits on the global stage will celebrate the other great moments when they come along.

There have been plenty of moments to cherish which Sports Brief will reminisce over while we await the kick-off in Qatar on Sunday, as well as some to forget.
