  • Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic left the internet in stitches after leaving the pitch in his underwear on Saturday
  • The Chelsea midfielder gave away his football attire to the fans at full time versus Manchester United
  • Chelsea thought they had scored the winner in the 87th minute, but were pegged back via a late Casemiro header

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic briefly stole the show during the match between Manchester United and Chelsea on Saturday, October 22, leaving the pitch in nothing but his underwear.

The former Real Madrid man came on for Chelsea, replacing Marc Cucurella in the 36th minute in contentious circumstances.

Cucurella was taken off by Graham Potter, as the manager seemed discontent with the fact that he was constantly playing out of position.

United had made the brighter start of the two sides, and would have gained the lead in the first half had they taken their chances.

Chelsea were a much-improved side after the introduction of Kovacic however, who seemed to settle his side’s midfield.

Fans were quick to point out the Croatian’s impact in the game, but the conversation quickly shifted at full time to his brief antics as he left the pitch.

Videos captured by cameras and shared by Football Daily on Twitter showed Kovacic jogging towards the tunnel in nothing but his underwear.

Typically, players tend to give out their shirts to fans after games, but it seems the 28-year-old went the extra mile. Fans could not help but poke fun at the situation.

“He couldn’t even go for that last minute header they stripped him of his kit and everything,” one fan joked.
“Looks like casemiro stripped him when he let him out his pocket,” another added.
“He probably lost a bet,” said another cheeky fan.

United salvage draw late on

As far as the game is concerned, it ended in a 1-1 draw as both sides shared the spoils.

Despite dominating and creating the better chances, United fell behind in the 87th minute after Scott McTominay was punished for manhandling Armando Broja.

Jorginho stepped up for the penalty to send David De Gea the wrong way, and the goal looked like it would be the winner.

United showed some character however as they went forward one last time. Luke Shaw’s cross found Casemiro’s head, and the Brazilian’s effort crept past the goal line for the equaliser in the fifth minute of added time.
