Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane was handed the first-ever Socrates Award during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in France on Monday night.

The Bayern Munich forward has continued to make the headlines as he built a hospital and funded several schools and families in his Bambali hometown.

It is believed the former Liverpool star was also instrumental in Senegal's fight against COVID-19.

The prestigious prize has named after legendary Brazilian footballer Socrates, who co-founded the Corinthians Democracy movement in opposition to the ruling military government in the 1980s.

Speaking after bagging the award, Mane said as per SPORTbible:

"First of all, I want to say good evening, everybody. Myself, I am really happy to be part of you guys tonight. Of course, like you said, sometimes I am a little shy to talk about it, but I'm really happy to do what I can for my people and to make things better."

Mane speaks on Senegal’s chances at the World Cup

Sports Brief earlier reported that the captain of the Senegalese national football team, Sadio Mane has disclosed that his side are not the favourites for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
