Blessing Emmanuel Scores As Nigeria Beat Chile To Reach Quarterfinal Stage at Under 17 World Cup

Nigeria's national under-17 women's team, affectionately known as the Flamingos, have qualified for the quarter-final of the 2022 U17 Women's World Cup in India. The young women beat Chile 2-1 in their final group game.

The encounter was decided at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday afternoon, 17 October, sending Nigerian football fans into jubilation after the final whistle.

Going into this game, the Flamingos only needed a draw to finish second in group B, but they did themselves a lot of good by winning the encounter.

The Nigerian girls started the match aggressively looking for early goal, and they had to wait for only four minutes to get the breakthrough through Blessing Emmanuel.

How did the first half end?

After conceding in the early minutes, Chile tried their best to restore parity. However, they were unable to break the defence of the Nigerians, who smiled into the dressing room with the lead.

According to an update the Super Falcons gave on their Twitter page, Flamingos scored their second goal in the 82nd minute through Bisola Mosaku.

In the 86th minute however, Nigerian defender Edafe handled the ball in the box. The referee awarded Chile a penalty which was scored by Tali.

Chile tried to pull one more goal back, but their efforts were futile as the Flamingos held on for a 2-1 win.

Oshoala nets goal for Barcelona

Earlier, Sports Brief reported how Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala was in good form for her club on September 25. Her club, Barcelona recorded a convincing 4-1 win over Villarreal in a Spanish Liga F clash.

It was a great performance from the Super Falcons star, who made sure she opened her goal account of the new season for her team.

Oshoala and her teammates were made to fight hard for the win against Villarreal, despite the seemingly convincing scoreline.
