  • Harry Maguire was the talk of the town last night after his England performance versus Germany drew widespread criticism
  • The Manchester United defender was at fault for Germany's two goals, but the Three Lion's spirited comeback spared his blushes
  • With that performance, Maguire's stock has deteriorated, with fans pleading with managers never to start him again

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was on the end of another social media mauling following his poor performance during England's 3-3 draw with Germany in the Nations League.

Maguire conceded a penalty after he was nutmegged by Germany's youngster Jamal Musiala, eliciting heavy criticism from fans across social media.

According to the Daily Mail, Maguire's error for Germany's first goal evoked strong reactions from fans who felt the defender shouldn't be starting for both club and country.

The 29-year-old fouled Musiala to concede a penalty and was found out of position during Germany's fluid counterattacking move.

Maguire blasted for his England performance

After conceding a penalty, most fans weren't shocked by his decision making and some seriously questioned the manager for picking him, while there were better players at his disposal.

Maguire has produced disappointing performances for the last 12 months, but last night's performance demonstrated how far he has to go to rediscover his form on the pitch.

Some fans urged the Untied centre-back to leave the Premier League and join other leagues like the Serie A to regain mental fortitude and perhaps salvage his reputation, which has tanked drastically.

Maguire's blushes were spared after England mounted a stunning comeback from 2-0 down to 3-2. They were close to snatching a win, but the Three Lions keeper fumbled with the ball, allowing Kai Havertz to get a draw for the Germans.

Following last night's draw, England are on their longest run without a win since 1993, but the spirited comeback gave fans some hope before the 2022 World Cup kicks off in less than two months.

Southgate strongly backs Maguire

Sports Brief earlier reported on Gareth Southgate's support of underfire Maguire, stressing that the towering defender was essential to his team and strongly hinted that he will start in Qatar in November.

Maguire's form for his club has seen him fall down the pecking order. Since starting for United in the first two league games, Maguire has started just one game, the Europa League match against Real Sociedad.
