  • Anthony Martial has named his best-ever Manchester United teammate and it isn't Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Martial heaped praise on Ronaldo but he stops short of naming him as the best player he's played alongside at United
  • Ronaldo made a sensational return to Old Trafford last year and despite wanting to leave the club this summer, he will remain at the club for another season

Anthony Martial has overlooked Cristiano Ronaldo as the best Manchester United player he has played with, choosing Wayne Rooney ahead of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Since joining Manchester United in 2015, Martial has played alongside a host of high-profile attacking partners but none has had a career like Ronaldo, who is arguably regarded by many as the 'Greatest Footballer of all time.

When asked about Ronaldo, Martial told France Football via Manchester Everning News: "He’s super humble – and what a hard worker!

"We often speak when we are at the gym in the morning before going to training and I would watch what he was doing. That’s only logical, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo!"

Despite hailing the athleticism of the Portugal captain, the 26-year-old Frenchman gave the honour to United's all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney as the best player he has played with.

"We have spoken about being genuine and so I can speak about Wayne Rooney. He’s the best player I have played with. He’s always playing for the team, always at 100%, no fuss. A monster. And a model as a footballer."

Martial has mustered just 45 minutes of football this season due to persistent injury problems and following the suspension of games due to the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the ex-Monaco man will hope to return in time to stake a claim in Erik ten Hag's lineup.

Martial blames 'disrespectful' Jose Mourinho for costing him a place in France's 2018 World Cup-winning squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Anthony Martial has opened up on his estranged relationship with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

Martial took the Premier League by surprise following his breakout year in 2015 but has since struggled to maintain consistency and live up to his immense potential under a raft of managers.

The Frenchman's form dipped under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, who criticized Martial's work ethic while labelling him as a 'spoilt kid'.
