A Ghanaian clergyman has ushered heavenly prayers on the World Cup trophy following its arrival in the country on Saturday.

The World Cup trophy landed in Ghana for a two-day tour as part of FIFA's quest to increase interest in the upcoming tournament in Qatar.

Ex-France forward, David Trezeguet arrived with the trophy on Saturday and was met by the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif and the Ghana Football Association president, Kurt Okraku.

However, in a video posted in social media, a pastor who was around for the viewing of the golden gong, took the opportunity to pray for the Black Stars to win the trophy and bring it back to Ghana in December.

"We pray this time that this cup you will go and return back to Ghana for a good celebration. We prophesy in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen,” prayed the man known as Pastor Sammy.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group H at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and will face Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana President Akufo-Addo confident of Black Stars success in Qatar

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo believes the Black Stars will be the first African team to win the FIFA World Cup.

The World Cup trophy began its tour of Africa in Accra over the weekend, led by 1998 winner David Trezeguet.

Inspired by Ghana's pioneering role in leading African countries to independence, Nana Akufo-Addo said the Black Stars are set to make history.

World Cup trophy arrives in Ghana for two-day tour

The FIFA World Cup trophy has landed in Ghana for a two-day tour led by former winner David Trezeguet.

The trophy arrived on Saturday morning with the Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku receiving the delegation at the Kotoko International Airport.

In photos posted on social media, the golden trophy is covered in a glass case and well guarded by security.
