A referee of Ecuador's LigaPro game between Macara and Aucas was assaulted after the fixture on Saturday, viral social media videos have shown.

Referee Alex Cajas was a victim on the day after he awarded a penalty in the 88th minute in Aucas favour following a VAR review where he consulted a pitchside monitor.

After making his decision to award the penalty, Macara goalkeeping coach, Hector Lautaro Chiriboga followed the match official on his way back onto the playing surface.

During a third division match between Garmense and Independencia, Garmense player Cristian Tirone punched Dalma Cortadi from behind after she showed him a yellow card for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

This saw police run onto the field to haul him away before he could even be sent off for his actions.
