The soccer club, Liverpool was founded following a dispute between Everton's committee and John Houlding, the club president and owner of the land at Anfield. After using the stadium for eight years, Everton relocated to Goodison Park in 1892, and Houlding founded the Liverpool soccer club to play at Anfield.
Initially named Everton football club and Athletic Grounds Limited, it became Liverpool football club in March 1892 and gained recognition three months later. They had their debut match on 1 September 1892, against Rotherham Town. During that time, Rotherham's players came from Scotland and were termed the Scotch Professors.
The team displayed commendable performances and even won the Lancashire League during its first season. However, by the time it reached the 1893/94 season, the club had already joined the Football League Second Division.
Liverpool's team kits, colours, and badges
For much of Liverpool's history, its home colours have always been red, from the singlet to the bottoms. However, when the club was founded back in 1892, the players were renowned for their blue and white quartered shirts. They used these colours up until 1896 when the club decided to adopt the city's colour, red.
The city's symbol of the liver bird was adopted as the club's badge in 1901. Although it was not incorporated into the kit immediately, it was later included in 1955. The club's players wore red shirts and white shorts until 1964, when manager Bill Shankly changed it to an all-red look.
