  • DFB-Pokal champions RB Leipzig will look to secure their first victory in the Bundesliga when they face Koln on Saturday
  • Leipzig drew 1-1 with Stuttgart while Koln thumped Schalke 04 3-1 in last week's Bundesliga fixtures
  • German international Timo Werner is expected to play for RB Leipzig after sealing his return from Chelsea

RB Leipzig will lock horns against FC Koln in the German Bundesliga at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

The DFB-Pokal winners are in search of their first victory in the German top flight this season having been held by Stuttgart last week.

The trip to Leipzig will almost certainly be a far harder test, and a better indication of where Koln can realistically aspire to finish this season.

RB Leipzig manager Domenico Tedesco says they are ready to make amends this season.

"We’re fully prepared for the new season and we’re raring to go,” he said.
"We can't wait for the first home game of the league season and we're looking forward to Saturday. The Stuttgart game showed us that we need to be more patient, especially in the final third. We'll do better against Köln."
"The first impressions of Timo were very good. We chatted about one or two things. I'm pleased that he's with us. He'll help us and is an option for Saturday's game."

Koln manager Steffen Baumgart tipped Leizig for the Bundesliga title but believes his team can beat them on Saturday.

"Leipzig, based on their quality, should be playing for the title," he said. They have a lot of potential, pace but that's what we all know. In Leipzig, we want to win the game. We want to play our way. It's not a game you have under control for 90 minutes.
We'll press. When we get the ball back, we'll go forward. When we lose it, we'll work back. With the rest of the tactical tweaks, you'll have to wait until Saturday
We had two or three good chances before Schalke went down to 10 men. We were able to use that man advantage superbly. But in the first 15 minutes, Schalke made it very difficult. Leipzig will do their best to cause us problems early on, too

Team News

Leipzig

Leipzig will welcome the return of Timo Werner from Chelsea to the squad. The forward could make his second debut on Saturday as Yussuf Poulsen and Konrad Laimer remain doubtful with ankle and thigh injuries respectively.

Leipzig will also miss the services of Lukas Klostermann who sustained a serious injury at Stuttgart last weekend.

However, Christopher Nkunku, Andre Silva and Dani Olmo are expected to lead the line for the Red Bulls.

FC Koln

On the other hand, Dimitrios Limnios will not feature for Koln due to a knee injury, while Mark Uth remains doubtful with a thigh strain.

After starting the season with a routine win, Baumgart is unlikely to make any changes to his side, with new signing Sargis Adamyan likely to play a key role from the substitutes' bench.

RB Leipzig Set to Beat Manchester United and Chelsea to Signature of RB Salzburg Striker Benjamin Šeško

RB Leipzig are closing in on signing another striker, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The German striker have agreed on a fee with Chelsea for Timo Werner and are now edging closer to signing Benjamin Šeško from the Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to confirm that Leipzig were closing in on a deal to bring the 19-year-old striker to Germany in the summer of 2023.
