FootballSierre Leone Teams Gulf FC and Kahunla Rangers Under Investigation for Suspicious 91:1 and 95:0 Wins
- Two very suspicious results have brought Sierra Leone football into worldwide disrepute
- Second-division team Gulf FC has been allowed to partake in play-offs to the top-flight despite somehow winning a match 91-1
- This is while Kahunla Rangers have to explain how they managed to win another match 95-0
Winston Churchill once said that there are lies, damned lies, and statistics.
However, what is unfolding in Sierra Leone football is on a stratospheric level of statistic anomalies. Two second-division matches saw 187 goals being scored on what must have been an unbelievable afternoon of football "magic".
According to BBC Sport Africa, Kahunla Rangers 'overwhelmed' Lumbebu United 95-0, while Gulf FC 'annihilated' Koquima Lebanon 91-1 in the play-off stages of trying to gain promotion into the Premier League. This prompted an investigation by the Sierra Leone Football Association into highly probable match-fixing and match-manipulation.
Despite all of this, another BBC Sport Africa report revealed that besides all of this controversy, Gulf FC had somehow been allowed to participate in the playoffs, having qualified for the Super 10 phase.

It was also reported in the article that the matches would be replayed for logistical purposes, with SLFA president Daddy Brima saying:
"Based on the report we got from the ERFA we allowed the matches to be replayed so that we can meet our calendar. But that does not in any way mean we have closed the case. We are sending it to FIFA and CAF for them to look at it and advise accordingly.
"Nobody is really taking this seriously, especially after explaining and people realising that by whatever standards nobody can score 90 goals in 90 minutes."
