Ghana’s U20 female team, the Black Princesses had a poor start to their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after they were thrashed by the United States of America.

First half goals from Michelle Cooper and a second half strike from Allyson Sentor ensured America picked all three points on the opening group game.

The Black Princesses were reduced to ten women after Jacqueline Owusu was red carded in the second half.

United States got off to a great start and wasted no time in announcing their intentions after Michelle Cooper header home from close range.

The Princesses immediately woke from their slumber but as they pushed for an equalizer they were pegged back following a strike from Alyssa Thompson.

The Americans went into the break with the advantage but Ghana were dealt a huge blow in the second half after Jacqueline Owusu saw red.

Minutes later, USA put the game beyond Ghana with a fine strike from Allyson Sentor.

Ghana will next face Japan in the second group game.

Meanwhile, the Black Princesses will be without captain Evelyn Badu throughout the tournament after she picked an injury in training.

The Norway-based player has been replaced by Kumasi Sports Academy's Afia Nyarko.

Black Princesses suffer defeat to France in friendly

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana's U20 female national team, the Black Princesses, were handed a reality check in their pre-World Cup friendly against France in Paris.

The team led by captain and newly crowned young African female footballer of the year, Evelyn Badu, suffered a 4-0 defeat at the Complexe Sportif de Clairefontaine.

The hosts scored two goals at either side of half time to round up preparation for the World Cup in Costa Rica.
