Real Madrid star David Alaba is said to be planning to launch a humanitarian project in Nigeria in order to give back to the birthplace of his parents.

Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated the footballer after he won the European Super Cup with Real Madrid.

Alaba opened the scoring for the Champions League winners in the 37th minute, and then Karim Benzema sealed the win with a fantastic goal in the 65th minute as they defeated Europa League holders Frankfurt.

The 30-year-old left-back was born in Vienna to Nigerian parents, as many argue that he is one of the best defenders of his generation.

In a match against France, Alaba made his debut for the Austrian national team, becoming their youngest player in history.

And in tweet, Abike Dabiri-Erewa wrote:

“David Alaba made us all proud yesterday by winning the European Super cup with his new club Real Madrid. He scored the first goal of the match. David is currently embarking on a philanthropic project in Nigeria to be launched soon.”

The footballer was nurtured and raised in Austria, even though he was eligible to play for the Super Eagles until October 2009.

Alaba named among Real Madrid’s best defenders ever

Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger is the only defender Real Madrid has signed this summer as the Spanish champions prepare ahead for the 2022/23 football season.

The 29-year-old German defender joined Los Blancos from English Premier League side Chelsea but has been ranked behind David Alaba as one of the best Real Madrid defenders.

Alaba played a key role alongside central defensive partner, Eder Militao as Real Madrid cruised to the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles last season.

Lewandowski names Sergio Ramos as his toughest opponent

Sports Brief earlier reported that newly-signed Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has named former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos as his toughest player he has ever faced.

Lewandowski sealed a move to Barcelona this summer, penning a 3-year contract, thereby ending his 8-year relationship with Bayern Munich.

The Pole had forced a move away from the Bundesliga giants after handing in a transfer request following a falling out with the club’s hierarchy.
