Controversy:

As noted on the Wikipedia page, RB Leipzig’s formation caused a lot of controversy in Germany. Many felt that Red Bull were commercializing football in Germany and using the club as a marketing tool. Supporters of other Leipzig football clubs protested against the formation of the team. The club has often been accused of being a “plastic club” with no traditions. The club’s image has improved over the years considerably.

Brief History:

Leipzig have had a meteoric rise up the German football ranks. The club was founded in 2009 and was already promoted to the Bundesliga in 2016. The club have had a history of being promoted from the lower leagues during either their first or second attempt. In their first season in the Bundesliga, they finished in second place, TransferMarkt confirmed. They finished fourth last season but won the DFB-Pokal, Germany’s premier cup competition.

Predicted Finish:

Leipzig have a strong side, but competition in the Bundesliga is heating up. Sports Brief predicts that Die Roten Bulle will finish third this coming season.
