Pele has showered Lionel Messi praises after scoring his 643rd goal for Barcelona which equalled his record with Santos.
The Brazilian icon and Messi are now the only two players to have achieved that feat for a single club.
Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw by Valencia in a La Liga game played at Camp Nou and Messi scrambled in a goal after his spot-kick was saved.
The result did not go in favour of La Blaugrana despite taking a 2-1 lead into the second half as Max Rodriguez equalized.
But Pele was more concerned with Messi's historic feat for the Camp Nou and said on Instagram:
"Like you, I know what it's like to love wearing the same shirt every day. Like you, I know that there is nothing better than the place we feel at home.
"Congratulations on your historic record. And congratulations on your beautiful career at the Camp Nou. Stories like ours, of loving the same club for so long, unfortunately will be increasingly rare in football.
"I admire you a lot, Messi."
The 33-year-old has nine goals in all competitions this season as Barcelona are struggling on the domestic scene as they lie fifth on the table.
Ronald Koeman's side have lost four matches in 13 matches managing to grind out only six wins in the new campaign.
All of Messi's troubles at the Camp Nou could be brought to an end next summer if he decides to end his 17-year spell to join Premier League giants Man City.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Lionel Messi scored his 643rd goal in Barcelona shirt in their 2-2 draw with Valencia on Saturday, December 19, to equal the incredible record set by legendary Pele.
Messi was able to restore parity in the added minutes of the first half through a header after his initial attempt from the spot was brilliantly saved by Juame.
Jordi Alba benefited from the keeper's save and crossed the ball back targeting his teammates which eventually found the Argentine who then headed it into the net.
Legit.ng also reported that Lionel Messi has accepted to halve his £750,000-a-week wages to join Manchester City in the summer, Daily Star.
The Argentine submitted a transfer request during the summer but decided to see out the rest of his contract with Barcelona.
The 33-year-old is allowed to speak to a potential buyer in January and reports claim that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner is ready to accept a wage cut to reunite with Pep Guardiola at City.
