  • A deal involving Nathan Ake’s potential move back to Chelsea from Manchester City has collapsed
  • The Dutch defender is set to remain at Manchester City , who feel Chelsea failed to meet their valuation of Ake
  • Ake has featured at both centre-back and left-back for City, and played 14 times for Pep Guardiola last season

Nathan Ake is set to remain a Manchester City player after Chelsea failed to meet City’s valuation of the player.

Chelsea were looking to make Ake the second Manchester City player to move to Stamford Bridge this summer after Raheem Sterling.

Tuchel’s side are particularly in need of defensive reinforcements, especially after the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andres Christensen.

However, Ake’s transfer saga has taken a new twist as David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Friday, July 15, that the Dutch defender was set to remain at Manchester City.

It was initially believed that Chelsea had agreed a £45 million fee with Man City, but as per the new developments, that did not happen.

City had made it clear that a transfer for Ake would only be possible if Chelsea came up with £50m for the versatile defender, and Guardiola’s side were able to line up a replacement.

Despite Chelsea agreeing to personal terms with Ake, City now seem to have blocked any move for the 27-year-old.

What next for Chelsea?

The Blues will now turn their attention to Kalidou Koulibaly, who is looking more likely to move to Stamford Bridge from Napoli.

Koulibaly has already passed his medical and is set for a £34 million switch from the Serie A to the Premier League.

Chelsea are also monitoring Presnel Kimpembe, who is seen as a natural left-sided centre back.

Lukaku’s return to Chelsea unlikely

Meanwhile, Sports Brief also reported of Thomas Tuchel’s stance on Romelu Lukaku as the Belgian’s future at Stamford Bridge looks bleak.

Tuchel strongly suggested that it was highly unlikely Lukaku would feature for Chelsea again, given his performances since his return, as well as recent additions to the Blues’ squad.

Speaking from the Blues' pre-season tour of the United States, Thomas Tuchel told Sky Sports via the Sun: "Given the fact he's just on loan, of course, there's a chance.
