July 13 is a day that Argentinians will never forget.

It is, however, a day that all of Germany will celebrate.

July 13 saw both sides contesting the FIFA World Cup final in Brazil, a match in which Germany won 1-0. What made the game remarkable and heartbreaking was how the German team won.

What happened in the final?

With the game seemingly heading to a penalty shootout, it was Mario Götze who scored the only goal of the game. Götze chested down an Andre Schurrle cross in the 113th minute of the tie before volleying it into the back of the net to seal the victory.

Argentina were left to rue the many missed chances they had to kill the game off sooner. The Argentinians had a goal chalked off due to an offside and then had another attempt cleared off the line, Sky Sports reported. The game provided many other near misses, though, as both sides

How did Argentina and Germany reach the final?

Argentina breezed through their group, beating Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria and Iran. Germany thumped Portugal 4-0 before drawing with Ghana and then narrowly beating the United States of America.

Argentina then beat Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands in the knockout phases to make the final, while Germany beat Algeria, France and then Brazil. The game against Brazil will also live long in history. The Germans annihilated the Brazilian side 7-1 in front of the Brazilian home fans to book their place in the final.

Mario Götze has admitted that he regrets not signing up for Liverpool in 2016.

Götze played under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp when he was the head coach of Borussia Dortmund from 2008 to 2015.

The German attacker left Dortmund in 2013 for Bayern Munich and had the opportunity to join Liverpool when Klopp was appointed head coach but turned it down.
