The new rules mean that Eric Tinkler will not be on the bench when Cape Town City competes in the CAF Champions League, Sunday World confirmed. Cape Town City, Mamelodi Sundowns, Marumo Gallants and Royal AM have all qualified to represent the continent next season.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ co-coached have the necessary qualifications, but it is unknown whether Khabo Zondo (Royal AM) and Romain Folz (Marumo Gallants) have either license.

Khoza has now commented on the coaching license issue, explaining that the challenge lay with CAF, Soccer Laduma reported.

“The challenge is with CAF. The licensing programme didn't happen for some reason and that’s why the coaches couldn’t get their badges to qualify,” he explained.

Khoza added that while the suspension of the programme was a problem, coaching was like education, and coaches could further their education on their own.

“ Our coaches must spend money out of their own pockets to better themselves. They don’t have to wait for CAF as they can do UEFA etc. to be ready to qualify,” Khoza concluded.

Cape Town City to be without Eric Tinkler for CAF Champions League thanks to new license regulations

Cape Town City could fall victim to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) latest rule change.

The Mother City side will compete in the CAF Champions League next season but will have to do it without coach Eric Tinkle on the bench.

CAF have amended its rules to state that all coaches in the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup must hold a CAF A or Uefa Pro licence.
