Spilling Kaizer Chiefs' secrets seems to be a trend of later.

Former players Daniel Cardoso and Leonardo Castro have both opened up about the culture of drinking at the Amakhosi, while Castro also spilled the beans about the club’s transfer procedures.

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has now opened up about his second spell at the team. The German manager highlighted the struggles he experienced at the club during 2018 and 2020 when he took charge of the Glamour Boys, Soccer Laduma reported.

Middendorp was brought back to replace Giovanni Solinas.

The German tactician explained that when he returned, he had little say in building a new team. He explained that many of the players had long-running contracts with the club, and he just had to work with the players he had.

“I was really talking to the management just to release some players and just to send some on loan to open up positions. But it was impossible,” Middendorp said.

He added that no player wanted to leave Chiefs because it was a fantastic environment, and so he just had to accept that in the new season, he would have to work with the players already at the club.

Middendorp would bring in a few new faces, but ultimately, it would not help. Chiefs would lose the DStv Premiership title on the last day of the season, Goal reported, and Middendorp lost his job at the Amakhosi thereafter.

Ernst Middendorp details difficulties faced as Maritzburg United manager including the constant sale of players

Ernst Middendorp has opened up about his time at Maritzburg United and the difficulties of managing the side.

The German coach was in charge of the side from November 2020 until the beginning of June, when he was let go by the owner, Farook Kadodia.

Middendorp has since produced a technical report which he submitted to his former boss, highlighting the difficulties he was working under.

Ernst Middendorp has become the latest victim of Premier Soccer League clubs parting ways with their coaches this year.

AmaZulu FC, Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, Baroka FC, Sekhukhune United and Golden Arrows all parted ways with the coaches this year and now Maritzburg United have followed the trend.

Orlando Pirates took a similar route when they let co-coach Fadlu Davids go.
