  • Wayne Rooney has been branded a fool for quitting on Derby County after the side was relegated to League One
  • Simon Jordan thinks that Rooney should have stuck with the Rams as he is nowhere near another Championship job let alone a Premier League job
  • Rooney was in charge of a very difficult period at Derby after they docked points for contravening EFL rules

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has called Wayne Rooney a fool for resigning from his role as Derby County head coach.

The club recently announced that Rooney had asked to be relieved of his duties as head coach. Derby County were relegated to League One after a tumultuous season.

The club was docked 21 points at the start of last season for administrative issues and breaching Championship rules. But Rooney masterminded a steady performance that saw them finish just 7 points from safety.

The 36-year-old has in the past been linked with Premier League job offers with Everton. But speaking to Talk Sport, Jordan believes that Rooney is nowhere near a job in the top-flight division.

He will have learned a lot from this.
Someone asked me earlier on if that means he's a shoo-in for a Premier League job. They've bumped their head. He's nowhere near that. I'd be surprised if Wayne got another Championship job any time soon.

I think he's a bloody fool. You've got a club that's dropped into League One with 28,000 fans that are going to be galvanised up the ying-yang. You've got an owner that's coming in there - he's bought the stadium too, so he's not mucking about. I think he is a fool.

Rooney is said to have told the club that it needed fresh energy hence his resignation.

Erik Ten Hag takes charge of his first training session as Manchester United boss

Sports Brief has also reported that the new era at Manchester United under Erik Ten Hag officially took off on Monday, June 27 as the Dutchman took charge of his first-ever training session with the team.

At least 20 United stars were present at the session, although there were some notable absentees including Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire.

Some of the missing stars were either absent due to being on international duty, or for personal reasons.
