Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has dismissed reports he is interested in signing promising Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru from Anderlecht this summer.

Kompany has been tasked to take charge of the Clarets as the club tries to regain promotion back to the English Premier League in his first season in charge.

It was reported that the former Manchester City captain was interested in signing Ashimeru to beef up his squad for next season.

But according to GhanaSoccernet, Kompany has denied the rumors stating he does not intend to take players away from Anderlecht, because he does not want to damage the club of his heart.

Kompany parted ways with Anderlecht in May after spending three years with the club and finishing third in the Belgian First Division A last season.

Ashimeru is under contract with Anderlecht until the summer of 2025.

Meanwhile, Majeed Ashimeru could not hold his tears after injury forced him off after just 16 minutes on his return to action.

The Anderlecht star was introduced into the second half of the Belgium Cup final against KAA Gent on Monday night, but he was withdrawn few minutes later due to injury.

Majeed Ashimeru broke down in tears as he walked off the pitch with the scoreline as 0-0 between the two sides.

Earlier, Sport Brief reported that Burnley are considering a move to reunite Majeed Ashimeru with new manager Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor.

Ashimeru had an incredible season in the Belgian top-flight league with RSC Anderlecht last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 31 matches.

The former WAFA prodigy signed for the Belgian giants on loan from Red Bull Salzburg in the second half of the 2020/21 season, making the move permanent the following summer.
