Former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is set for a stunning return to management in the La Liga.

Bielsa is poised to become the new Athletic Club boss but will only do so if Inaki Arechabaleta wins the upcoming election to become club president.

The Argentine tactician’s Premier League run came to an end earlier in the year after he was dismissed in west Yorkshire following a string of worrying results that left the club battling relegation.

Regardless, Leeds fans still hold Bielsa in high regard as he was the mastermind of the club’s return to the Premier League after a 17-year absence.

They also secured return to top-flight in style as Bielsa established an attacking style of play with his team.

Months after the sacking, Bielsa is set to take over an old job, at Athletic Bilbao, with presidential elections underway at the club.

Inaki Arechabaleta, a favourite for the seat, has promised to reappoint Bielsa immediately he secures the post.

As part of Bilbao’s recruitment process, prospective managers have had to appear in public presentations to the board to openly state what they would offer to the club.

Among the candidates was the familiar face of Bielsa, who has undergone a drastic transformation since the Leeds job came to an end.

Not only has the tactician lost a significant amount of weight, he is also without a tracksuit and glasses, a look he that became his trademark in the Premier League era.
