- England striker and captain Harry Kane was mercilessly hammered for attempting a dive in the Hungarian penalty area
- Social media was not impressed by his antics, with videos of the incident going viral to much laughter and derision
It is probably in England striker and captain Harry Kane's interest to give social media a skip today judging by what is trending.
Twitter and Facebook were aflame with video clips and comments about Kane's pitiful dive in attempting to milk a penalty against Hungary last night in the UEFA Nations League match at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton.
The Guardian reported that the Three Lions' 0-4 collapse was the worst home defeat since 1928. The hungry Hungarians also completed a sweep of the English in the competition, having defeated them in the corresponding fixture two weekends ago in Budapest. The Mirror also reported that England faced the real possibility of relegation from League A of the competition if they remained rooted to the bottom of Group B.
@DidKaneCheat, a Twitter account dedicated to the 28-year-old Kane's diving antics since 2012, shared a video that has since amassed a whopping 1.9 million views since last night. Hungarian defender Zsolt Nagy's foot is seen touching Kane's as he goes up for a cross, before the latter ridiculously falls to the ground like he was shot out of the sky.
England fans brutally mock Gareth Southgate for taking off Bukayo Saka for Harry Maguire
Gareth Southgate was on the receiving end of harsh criticism from England fans on Tuesday, June 14 as the Three Lions suffered a crushing defeat to Hungary in the Nations League.
As reported by Sports Brief, England supporters were particularly critical of the manager after he decided to take off Bukayo Saka to bring in Harry Maguire in defence.
The substitution was seen as Southgate’s way of saying the game was already gone, and England fans did not appreciate it at all.
