The Netherlands secured the top spot in Group 4 of the UEFA Nations League after they played an entertaining 2-2 against Poland on Saturday, June 11.

The Dutch team had to battle their way back from 2-0 down to earn a massive point against the impressive Polish team who played without fear against Louis van Gaal’s team.

Poland shock Netherlands early

Aston Villa right-back, Matty Cash gave Poland a surprise 1-0 lead after a beautifully worked team goal in the 18th minute as the away side led at half-time.

Piotr Zielinski doubled the Poles’ advantage early in the second half much to the delight of their sizeable contingent of travelling fans in the stadium as Poland seek a first victory against their host in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands take control in 5 minutes

The Netherlands however responded with two quickfire goals of theirs as Davy Klaassen and Denzel Dumfries scored within the space of 5 minutes to bring the game level.

The host pushed for a winner against a disoriented Poland team towards the end of the game and almost got rewarded after they were awarded a 91st-minute penalty.

Barcelona forward, Memphis Depay did waste the opportunity after his spot-kick hit the upright as the winger becomes the first man to miss three penalties for the Netherlands.

The Netherlands will try to consolidate their lead at the top of Group 4 when they next host Wales on Tuesday, June 14 while Poland will hope forward Robert Lewandowski will be fit when they host Belgium the same day.

Hungary and Germany produce entertaining draw in Nations League game

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Hungary and Germany gave it their all but their UEFA Nations League encounter ended in a draw.

It didn’t take long for the action to heat up between the two sides. In fact, both teams had scored a goal after nine minutes.

Zsolt Nagy got the home team off to the perfect start when he smashed the ball in from close range at the six-minute mark. Attila Fiola put in a glorious pass which Ádám Szalai headed towards gall.
