A statement from the Public relations agency of Shakira has confirmed the incident as quoted by the Mirror.

We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.

It had been reported that the Pique started frequenting nightclubs with his Barcelona teammate Riqui Puig and returning to his bachelor pad in the wee hours of the night.

Marca reports that there will be a custody dispute on the two children they sired. The couple never formalised their union but it remains to be seen how the interests of their children will be catered for.

The report further says that Shakira intends to move to another country. The Colombian star has no relatives or friends in Spain except the ones she knew from Pique.

Pique, a World Cup winner with Spain in 2010, has not had the easiest of campaigns with Barcelona, He was part of the squad that finished trophyless despite a late resurgence. He has also been hampered by a lot of injuries throwing his long-term future at Barcelona into question.
