Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane's pre-match goodwill towards fellow South African Victor Gomes before the CAF Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca did not extend to after the match.

Mosimane was critical of Gomes’ performance in last night's encounter that the Moroccans won 2-0. Zouhair El Moutaraji struck twice to deny the 10-time champions a record-breaking third Champions League title on the bounce, while giving Wydad its third one.

According to iDiski Times, Mosimane said:

“I have no problem with the referee except for time-wasting, especially in the second half, and the referee should have kept time. Victor Gomes could have managed the time better, he was fixing his things for three minutes, the goalkeeper was down.

"I was running around looking for balls because there were no ball boys, they wasted a lot of time, while returning the ball. This happened because Al Ahly is playing the match at the opponent’s court, and for this it was natural for Wydad to win amid all these circumstances."

This was an about-turn of note from the Red Devils mentor, as he had tweeted praise for Mosimane just days ahead of the final, saying:

“How I used to criticise Victor Gomes, at my humble pie long time back and I am his biggest fan and he knows that. I give him the respect that he deserves and he is currently No1 Referee in the Continent."
