India-based Ghanaian female footballer Elshaddai Acheampong is fast becoming an iconic figure in the India Women's Premier League within a year of swapping the shores of Ghana for South Asia.

The 18-year-old forward finished the just-concluded 2021-22 India Women's Premier League as the highest scorer, notching 20 goals in just 11 games for Gokulam Kerala.

His goalscoring prowess propelled Gokulam to back-to-back league titles, finishing three points better than closest rivals Sethu FC.

In a post on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, Gokulam Kerala acknowledged the Black Maidens vice-captain for her remarkable achievement in the just-ended campaign.

She was presented with a cheque of $1,000 for emerging as the highest scorer in the Indian Women's top-flight, reports Ghanaweb.

Who is Elshaddai Acheampong?

Born in Kumasi, Ghana, Elshaddai is a female professional footballer who plies her trade in the India Women's Premier League.

She joined Gokulam Kerala from Ghanaian outfit Police Ladies in 2021 and has since not looked back.

Elshaddai banged in 20 goals in 11 matches for the Malabarians in the 2021-22 season, finishing as the league's top scorer.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Matilda Assabil made history when she became the youngest female footballer to appear in Ghana Women’s Division One League.

The 10-year-old midfielder reportedly made her professional debut for Starlet Ladies after signing with the club.

Wearing the No. 20 jersey, Assabil has probably become the youngest player to make his senior debut in terms of first-team minutes played.
