The country was in line to kick off its campaign on Saturday, June 4, with a trip to Cameroon on the cards.

CAF boots out Kenya from the 2023 AFCON qualifiers

Kenya was out to seek a ticket for the 2023 edition of the continental showpiece set for Ivory Coast in June 2023.

However, that dream has been cut short following CAF's decision to dismiss the East African country from the qualifiers.

CAF reached the decision after Kenya failed to have its name cleared by FIFA at least two weeks before the qualifiers kick-off.

FIFA slapped Kenya with a ban from all international football competitions due to government interference in the running of football activities.

Sports Brief understands CAF had set out a raft of guidelines that Kenya needed to meet to be allowed to participate in the competition.

But having failed to toe the line, the continental body has resolved to get rid of Kenya from the qualifiers.

"Kenya have been expelled from the qualifiers because the suspension slapped on the country by Fifa three months ago still remains in place. They have not met any of the conditions from Fifa and CAF," Nation Sport cited a source within CAF.

Harambee Starlets dumped out of CECAFA

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Harambee Starlets cannot participate in the regional tourney as the country is still under the FIFA suspension imposed earlier this year.

The CECAFA championship will be contested by eight teams from May 22nd at the Njeru Technical Centre in Uganda.

This is the second event that Starlets have been banned from after missing out on the Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers.
