  • Marcelo Guedes has vehemently denied claims that he was ostracised from the Lyon first team due to inappropriate dressing room behaviour
  • Stunning reports claim the Frenchman had farted in the dressing room after a game and was laughing with his teammates
  • Guedes has now broken his silence over the allegation claiming “journalism nowadays is a joke” as he denies the report

Brazilian defender Marcelo Guedes has denied allegations that he was dropped from Lyon squad following a dressing room incident back in August, SPORTbible reports.

Reports surfaced on Tuesday that the centre-back was left out of the first team for farting and laughing about it with his teammates.

It was gathered that Guedes was excused from the first team and demoted to the reserves due to inappropriate behaviour just after their 3-0 loss to Angers.

The defender also scored an own goal during the encounter, but after he was axed from the team, not much had been heard about the player until the stunning report by French outlet L’Equipe.

The 34-year-old has now taken to social media to brand the report as ‘fake news'.

He tweeted:

"Thanks to @lequipe, after a long time, I have to come back to @Twitter to deny all the allegations. Journalism nowadays is a joke!"

At the time, Lyon issued the following statement:

“The inappropriate behaviour of Marcelo in the locker room after the match in Angers justifies this decision, which was taken unanimously by Olympique Lyonnais' management team,.
"The player was briefed on this decision yesterday afternoon by Juninho and Peter Bosz. Olympique Lyonnais' management reiterates that all of its players must demonstrate an unwavering mindset and a commitment to quickly return to recording results in line with the club's ambitions.”

Marcelo who earlier had a stint with PSV Eindhoven featured in over 100 matches for Lyon and after being ostracised from the first team, he managed 11 appearances for the second side.

Messi named the third best player in the world

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Lionel Messi has controversially been declared the third-best player in the world this season.

Even more bizarrely, the Argentine has been ranked ahead of in-form striker Karim Benzema. Messi has endured one of his poorest seasons as far as goal returns are concerned.

The 34-year old moved to Paris Saint Germain at the start of the season after contract negotiation talks with Barcelona failed.
