Ghanaian Referee, Two Players Allegedly Caught With Suspicious Betting Patterns on Their Phones

Ghanaian referee Isaac Osei and two players of Ghana Premier League outfit Berekum Chelsea have been allegedly nabbed with a history of betting on their mobile devices, reports Kickgh.

The Ghanaian top-flight has been rocked with betting scandals with the reports spreading like wildfire as the Premier League gets to a close.

The growing match-fixing scandals have thrown the competition into disrepute with many attributing the low patronage of the local league to the increased dubious betting patterns, which correctly predict outcomes of games.

In a bid to nip the growing trend in the bud, the Ghana Football Association in conjunction with FIFA/CAF Integrity Officers mounted investigations which according to multiple reports in the local media landscape have resulted in three suspects being nabbed.

Per the reports, referee Isaac Osei and the two footballers have been handed indefinite suspensions to assist with the investigations.

“It is true that our camp was raided by FIFA, CAF and GFA integrity team ahead of Great Olympics and they claimed two of our players had betting slips relating to some Ghana Premier League matches on their phones,” Fredua Christopher told Kickgh.com

“We at Berekum Chelsea will comply with any directives from the Ghana Football Association and such acts can't be condoned. We'll not shield any player(s)” he concluded.

The continent experienced more than 50 reported suspicious sports events in the last year. This was part of more than 900 games in 10 sports codes across 76 countries globally which were deemed to be suspicious.

As reported in IOL, these revelations were made in a report by the global sports technology company Sportsradar Integrity Services.
